Category: Coffee & Tea [Edit]
Neighborhood: Oak Forest/Garden OaksThis is a great place to go for a coffee and/or beer. The owners are adding on a kitchen so soon you will be able to get a burger and fries with your latte. They roast their own beans. Their drafts are only $3 which totally rocks. The laid back homey atmosphere is actually what I love about this place. I truly hope they leave the play area in the back after the renovations b/c that is the reason I plan to come here at least once a week with H. It is a lot less crowded than the other places that have outdoor play areas (i.e. Lupe Tortilla). And the backyard/porch area is very secure for the young ones because it is fenced in. Can I tell you how much of a welcome addition this is to my weekly outing rotation? H loves it here and there are other kids to play with. Mommy can kick back and relax, chat with friends. All the negatives the other reviewers are citing are actually positives for me.

The Petrol Station is a great location that has yet to live up to the promise of it's great location. The Garden Oaks & Oak Forest areas are aching for an outstanding local coffee shop. Petrol Station seemed to be on the verge of filling that void when it opened, but the potential is starting to fade.
The owner is a friendly, laidback guy. Unfortunately his relaxed approach may be having a detrimental effect on the place. Inside tables have been replaced by a big screen TV and Guitar Hero. And, the coffee frequently tastes as if it has been roasted a bit too long.
The Petrol Station has a lot going for it. The owner knows his beer and has a great draft selection featuring mainstream microbrews like Real Ale and Pyramid. Ample patio seating in front and back makes Petrol Station an easy choice for unwinding with your friends during Happy Minute.
Happy Minute starts at 5:20 PM. During the ensuing 60 seconds you are able to buy any draught pint or bottle of suds for only $1. The key is to have your money on the counter before the house clock registers 5:21 PM.
You should stop by and check out The Petrol Station if the weather is nice and you want a beer. But, take a raincheck if the weather is crappy.
What you need to know:
+ Great patio space
+ Solid draft beer selections
+ NOT OPEN ON MONDAY

pros:
+small, but consistently GREAT beer selection.
+friendly staff/owner.
+newly renovated interior makes it feel like you've actually gone out, versus sitting in your (slightly dirty) living room and having to pay for beer.
+it's an actual, honest-to-goodness, *neighborhood* joint!
+food is simple, yet tasty.
cons:
-horrible hours! if the petrol station is going to keep bar hours (no mornings, open late into the evening) then function as a bar! instead, it seems to be marketed as a coffee shop/beer joint and should be open when coffee is (traditionally) served.
-not open on monday, when i seem to need a beer the most!
